    Renting a tow dolly

I tried to rent a tow dolly last year to tow my wife's Trailblazer, but all of the major companies said it wasn't suitable for towing. They said it was too big and too heavy. I know I've seen people towing Trailblazers before. Do those people have custom dollys? Is it just the rental companies that don't make anything big enough for an SUV like that?

I would probably look into getting a flatbed if you want to tow something that size. I drive a Blazer and it has to be towed by a flatbed, not on a regular tow truck. I don't think it's the weight so much as they are usually 4WD and you aren't supposed to tow those on 2 wheels.

If it fits on the dolly front axle first just unhook the rear driveshaft and you should be set to jet

People often lie to the rental companies about what they're towing. Only a problem if you get in an accident: then no insurance covers it.

Where do you reside? I remember reading that both CA and AZ (the latter being a crazy state as I call it) have tow restrictions that seem to confuse people sometimes. My brother was on a vacation outside of Sedona and he ran into a similar issue.

    I don't own a truck
I did not even know you had to tell the rental company what you were using the tow dolly for. That is interesting. I have seen people tow bigger vehicles too. I bet they owned their own dolly. I would get a flatbed next time too.

I know uhaul requires you to tell them what you're towing and towing with. Even if they don't ask up front, if it's over what the towing vehicle or the dolly are rated for, insurance won't cover squat.

yes, if they have their own tow dolly, no questions asked.

There is also the tow bar option. Cheaper than buying a tow dolly.
